A widespread species throughout the Ecuadorean Amazon, it is almost always found in water drainages. It can be acclimated to grow as a seasonal outdoor water garden plant during the warmer months but care must be taken to protect bulbs from cold damage. Foliage dies back if the plants are subjected to dry periods.
