supposedly this is a naturally occurring hybrid that occurs in one location of the Lubok Antu area between begonia darthvaderiana and what is thought to be begonia malachosticta. We sourced these plants from a reputable nursery in Sarawak and trust the information given about this interesting cross as that source is one of the original discoverers of darthvaderiana and other begonias native to that area. Since its initial finding this hybrid has been recreated artificially in cultivation several times but these plants are seed descendants of the clones grown in our friend’s nursery in Malaysia. We do not doubt the natural hybridization story as we have come across natural hybridization in a few begonia species including what was once formerly begonia chloristica “green” for example.
