This species is native to the Colombian and Ecuadorean Chocó regions. It is well known for the white colored edges that are very prominent while in juvenile stage but fade away as the plant matures. It can be found in several areas, from central Colombia down to Mindo, Ecuador.
Although this species can tolerate typical terrarium temperatures we have learned that it does grow better in cooler environments similar to that in their native ranges, which is usually in the higher elevations.
