Begonia lehmannii

$120.00 USD

A very rare species occuring in the central Andes of Colombia. Many years ago it was thought to be a columnea at first but given the political climate at that time in Colombia it was considered very dangerous even for locals to try and find this species. We were successful with this species via cutting propagations and growing them in a mix of long fiber sphagnum and orchid bark. In the field this species grows in high humidity environments and in wet substrates similar as to what we utilize (moss/bark) but also even in soils similar to akadama. A species not for the feint hearted as it does not tolerate warm temperatures very well and is prone to rot without air circulation. Once established it can be a little forgiving but we still regard this species as one of our most delicate in our whole inventory.
