a still somewhat uncommon species of melastome that was introduced into cultivation a few years back from an old friend I used to travel with before he settled down (I could probably take a note). He claims this species came from the same area we had found begonia lugonis and other specific species of flora a long time ago but was not present at the time we both went (2013?). A year later this species was growing in abundance all the way up to a banana/orchid farmer’s property we both knew who grew hundreds from seeds because his wife loved them - there’s a funny history with the farmer using these plants as gifts every time his wife caught him drinking (it’s a small town) which eventually these melastomes were put into cultivation and the rest is history.
